Tsunami Museum Proof of Persistence of the Acehnese People

Banda Aceh was the largest city affected by the earthquake and tsunami on 26 December 2004 ago. The 9.3-magnitude Richer quake, centered at 160 km to the west of Aceh with a depth of 10 km, has claimed more than 300,000 lives, and was the most devastating earthquake in 40 years that hit Aceh, the West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia, Thailand , East Coast of India, Srilanka, even to the East Coast of Africa.

Evidence of this great event is then immortalized in the Tsunami Museum located at Jalan Sultan Iskandar Muda No. 3, Sukaramai, Baiturrahman, Kota Banda Aceh. The museum is adjacent to Blang Padang Square or about 500 meters from Baiturrahman Great Mosque.

Museum designed by Mr. Ridwan Kamil -Walikota Bandung-was built with the help of several institutions, including the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Agency (BRR) of NAD-Nias as the building budgetary, the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources (DESDM) as the budgetary of planning, , and the provision of museum collections and museum management guidelines, the Government of Aceh as a provider of land and museum managers, and the City Government of Banda Aceh as a provider of environmental facilities and infrastructure museum and Ikatan Arsitek Indonesia.
